I totally agree with you, and I forgot to mention that in the previous post. The lack of anxiety around waiting-for-email is why having a smart phone sounds quite appealing to me.
But I can’t deal with smartphones for a variety of reasons, between the price/my ability to break phones and the fact that I kind of can’t stand the teeny interface, and it just makes me feel like I have dull fingertips. That’s me, though. I’m trying to be more of a luddite this year. All my phone can do is text, as far as I know.
